MEC commissioned Jason Bruges Studio to design and build an interactive installation to celebrate Cannes Lions Innovation festival. The visual art piece, named EmotiCannes is an anamorphic digital installation made up of 180 small screens that, from certain vantage points, resolve into the icon of the Cannes Festival of Creativity, the Lion.

Concept to Creation

The Experience

Lion displays the emotion of the Festival using data drawn in real-time from social media. Viewed from a distance the Lion is a barometer of the social media sentiment surrounding the Festival. When approached it reveals data that gives an insight into the prevailing mood of the Festival crowd. Like a chameleon reacting to different stimulus, the installation shifts and changes its colours and projections in sympathy with the 10,000+ festival attendees.

Concepting

Modeled after the Cannes Innovation Festival lion, this anamorphic sculpture was designed to showcase MEC's expertise in uncovering real-time insights. As one of MEC's always-on innovations, it was created to visualize data through a festival-recognized medium, turning it into intuitive, impactful visualizations.

Prototype & Testing

A fun build and Install where speed and transportability was a key factor as this had to bump into a trade show in less then 3 days.

Install

The design allowed the plinth to split into three and transported with the rods installed at their lowest travel. Ensuring a speedy on site assembly and debugging.

The Festival

O‍ur roll during the festival was to ensure the piece was functioning and presentable. The EmotiCannes sculpture was a huge success bringing 100's of attendees to the booth, the design was featured on design week for its build and innovation.
